Journey Into Jewellery
Debapriya’s path in jewellery design started with an interest in turning real-life memories and city stories into metal forms. To learn the craft step-by-step, she joined the three-year degree program at the Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ), Mumbai.
During her time at IIGJ Mumbai, Debapriya stood out across her subjects, graduating as the First Ranker of her batch (2022–2025). Her studies at IIGJ Mumbai covered hand sketching, CAD design, gemmology, and product merchandising. The structured environment at IIGJ Mumbai helped her build the creative confidence and practical discipline needed for the fast-paced jewellery industry.
Debapriya approaches design with a simple mix of creative curiosity and practical logic. Instead of keeping art and business separate, she looks at how story-driven ideas can be made using good CAD work, the right materials, and clear budgeting. She believes that even bold, unusual concepts should have a clear purpose, strong bench work, and customer appeal.
Learning Through Industry Experience
Debapriya built on her classroom work by designing for Qween, an experiential jewellery brand.
Working on contemporary lines for a new retail brand gave her daily experience in collection planning, trend tracking, concept sketching, and 3D digital rendering. This hands-on role allowed her to test her design ideas against real customer preferences, giving her a practical view of how drawings become store products.
Design Project / Works
Debapriya’s main showcase project, Aamchi Mumbai, was created under the project theme Newstalgia. The five-piece collection looks at the city of Mumbai through a surreal lens, turning personal memories and daily city life into bold wearable art.
Debapriya handled the full project herself—starting with research and hand drawings, moving into CAD models, picking gemstones and materials, and guiding final bench production.
Her collection stood out at IIGJ Mumbai and won the Design Excellence Award for its original idea, clear style, and neat finishing.
