Journey Into Jewellery
Bhavik’s introduction to jewellery began through his family’s business at Mahalaxmi Jewellers. This early exposure gave him a first-hand look at workbench craftsmanship, customer preferences, and the personal value people place on jewellery.
To build on that foundation, he joined the Post Graduate Diploma program at the Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ), Mumbai. His time at IIGJ Mumbai expanded his technical skills in hand sketching, CAD, manufacturing, and merchandising. Through IIGJ Mumbai, he also volunteered at the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS), gaining useful real-world exposure to major trade exhibitions and market trends.
Bhavik approaches design with a focus on adaptability and real-world use. He constantly asks practical questions about every detail of a piece—from why a specific shape or stone was picked to how it will be made in the factory and worn in daily life. He believes that good design must go beyond looking good, focusing instead on whether a piece is comfortable, easy to wear in different ways, and meaningful to the buyer.
Learning Through Industry Experience
After completing his studies at IIGJ Mumbai, Bhavik completed an internship with Bhavya Ramesh before joining UNI-Design Jewellery Pvt. Ltd. as a Product Developer.
His current job gives him daily practice in turning drawings into finished pieces on the factory floor. Working directly with production teams, CAD specialists, and merchandisers allows him to test moving parts, adjust proportions, and make sure that every collection meets clear store standards.
Design Project / Works
For his capstone project at IIGJ Mumbai, Bhavik created Medusa, a statement collection inspired by serpent shapes and inner strength. Instead of viewing Medusa through old myths, he reinterpreted her story as a symbol of personal change, protection, and resilience.
The collection used smooth snake curves, gold, diamonds, and green emerald accents to build a clean luxury look.
The main piece of the collection was a convertible, multi-functional design that turns an everyday earbud accessory into a statement necklace. Built with a small hair-clip mechanism at the snake’s head to attach fresh flowers or feathers, the piece lets the wearer style it in multiple ways.
Key achievements for this capstone project include:
· Hackathon Finalist: Selected as a finalist in a national hackathon run by the World Gold Council.
· Industry Showcase: Displayed at IIJS by the World Gold Council.
· Full Process Work: Taken from initial concept boards and hand drawings through CAD modeling, factory making, and final presentation at IIGJ Mumbai.
