Kerry Gregory Becomes First Recipient Of Alan Hodgkinson Medal

United States: The Accredited Gemologists Association (AGA) has announced Kerry Gregory as the first-ever recipient of the Alan Hodgkinson Medal, a newly established honour recognising exceptional contributions to the global gemological community.

The award commemorates the legacy of the late Alan Hodgkinson, one of the jewellery industry's most respected gemologists and authors, whose lifelong commitment to education, mentorship and professional excellence continues to inspire generations of gem professionals.

Kerry Gregory was selected for the inaugural honour in recognition of her extensive work in expanding access to gemological education and supporting the professional development of aspiring gemologists.

Throughout her career, Gregory has actively promoted gemological learning by offering career development consultations, delivering complimentary educational programmes for jewellery students and donating gemstones to educational institutions to enhance practical training.

She is also recognised for developing inclusive teaching methods designed to support dyslexic and neurodivergent students, helping make gemological education more accessible to a wider community of learners.

Beyond education, Gregory has built an impressive record of service across several leading jewellery and gemological organisations.

She serves as a Tutor and Board Member of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A), is a Trustee of the Silversmiths and Jewellers Charity, a member of the National Association of Jewellers Professional Trade Standards Committee, a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, and a member of the British Hallmarking Council.

Commenting on the award, AGA President Çiğdem Lüle said, “Kerry Gregory exemplifies the values that Alan Hodgkinson stood for through her generosity, mentorship, leadership and unwavering dedication to helping others succeed. We are honoured to recognise her as the inaugural recipient of this award.”

The introduction of the Alan Hodgkinson Medal reflects the growing importance of education, mentorship and knowledge-sharing within the gemological profession. While technical expertise remains fundamental to the industry, initiatives that encourage learning and professional development continue to play a vital role in strengthening the global jewellery trade.

By recognising individuals who dedicate themselves to advancing gemological education, the Accredited Gemologists Association is reinforcing the importance of nurturing future generations of gemologists and jewellery professionals.

Gregory's recognition marks a significant milestone not only in her own career but also for the wider gemological community, highlighting the lasting impact of education, inclusion and mentorship in shaping the future of the jewellery industry.
