Coimbatore: Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers (VBJ), the 126-year-old heritage jewellery house from Tamil Nadu, has expanded its retail presence with the opening of its largest showroom to date on 100 Feet Road in Coimbatore. Spread across three floors, the new flagship marks a significant milestone in the fifth-generation family business's expansion beyond Chennai, with a reported investment exceeding ₹900 crore.
Established in 1900, VBJ has built its reputation on traditional South Indian jewellery craftsmanship, distinctive design and longstanding customer relationships. The Coimbatore opening reflects the brand's strategy to strengthen its presence in Western Tamil Nadu, catering to the region's established jewellery-buying market and growing demand for contemporary fine jewellery.
The three-storey showroom brings together an extensive selection of gold, diamond, platinum, gemstone and silver jewellery, offering customers access to traditional and contemporary collections within a single retail destination. The assortment draws on VBJ's in-house design and manufacturing capabilities, combining heritage craftsmanship with evolving consumer preferences.
Traditional South Indian jewellery forms a central part of the showroom's offering, with collections featuring elaborate bridal sets, Nagas temple jewellery, antique-finish gold ornaments and intricate Jadau creations. These designs reflect the region's rich jewellery-making traditions and continued demand for heritage-inspired pieces during weddings and significant family celebrations.
The showroom also features a dedicated selection of natural diamond jewellery, including GIA-certified diamonds, solitaires and contemporary statement pieces. Alongside these are coloured gemstone collections incorporating rubies, emeralds and sapphires, as well as traditional Navaratna jewellery.
Addressing changing purchasing preferences, VBJ has introduced lightweight jewellery crafted in 18-karat and 14-karat gold, alongside contemporary platinum bands and design-led collections suited to everyday wear. The wider assortment also includes silver articles and corporate gifting options, extending the showroom's product offering across different occasions and price segments.
Commenting on the expansion, Amarendran Vummidi, Managing Partner of VBJ, highlighted Coimbatore's strong business community and established jewellery-buying culture as important factors behind the company's decision to open its largest showroom in the city. He emphasised the brand's confidence in the regional market and its potential for sustained demand across traditional and contemporary jewellery categories.
Jithendra Vummidi, Managing Partner of VBJ, highlighted the importance of developing a retail environment that responds to changing consumer expectations. He noted that the showroom's scale enables the company to present a broader assortment of jewellery while supporting the regular introduction of original designs developed by its in-house creative team.
The new flagship also reflects the increasing importance of large-format jewellery retail spaces, particularly as established brands seek to offer more specialised product categories and personalised customer experiences. By bringing together bridal jewellery, natural diamonds, coloured gemstones and contemporary collections, VBJ aims to address a wider range of customer preferences within its expanding retail network.
The Coimbatore launch forms part of VBJ's broader growth strategy across domestic and international markets. Alongside strengthening its presence in South India, the company has extended its international footprint through a flagship showroom in Dallas, Texas, introducing its heritage jewellery designs to overseas customers.
With its latest opening, Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers continues to build on more than a century of craftsmanship and family entrepreneurship, combining its established design heritage with larger retail formats and an expanding geographical presence.
