Manama: Bahrain’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce has recognised a group of employees who participated in the ‘Industrial Innovation Lab’, a programme developed by the ministry’s Youth Hope Makers Committee in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
The initiative formed part of Youth City 2030, with a focus on building innovation capability, problem-solving skills and future-ready thinking among young professionals working within the industrial ecosystem.
H.E. Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce, honoured the participating employees, underlining the ministry’s emphasis on encouraging a younger generation of professionals to engage more deeply with industrial transformation and innovation-led growth.
The programme is particularly relevant at a time when manufacturing sectors are being reshaped by AI, automation, smart production systems, data-led decision-making and Industry 4.0 technologies. UNIDO has been expanding its global work around industrial digitalisation, smart manufacturing and responsible AI adoption, with initiatives aimed at helping industries move from experimentation to practical implementation.
For Bahrain, programmes such as the Industrial Innovation Lab create an opportunity to strengthen the human-capital side of industrial transformation. Technology adoption alone is not enough; industries also require professionals who can identify operational problems, evaluate emerging solutions and translate innovation into measurable business outcomes.
The initiative also carries relevance for specialised manufacturing sectors such as gems and jewellery, where production is increasingly incorporating CAD/CAM, laser processing, 3D printing, automation, traceability and digital quality-control systems.
By recognising employees involved in the programme, the ministry is reinforcing a broader message: future industrial competitiveness will depend as much on innovation capability and skilled people as on machinery and infrastructure.
