DANAT Appoints New Board to Strengthen Gemmology, Testing and Research Capabilities

Bahrain: The Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones, (DANAT), has announced the appointment of a new Board of Directors, led by Chairman Mohamed Ahmed AlSada, as the institute prepares for its next phase of growth.

The newly reconstituted Board will support DANAT’s continued development across pearl, gemstone and jewellery testing services, while strengthening the institute’s contribution to Bahrain’s position in the natural pearl and gemstone sector.

The Board includes newly appointed members Dalal Ahmed Alqais, Maryam Mansour Kazerooni and Noof Ramzi Alkhawaja. They join continuing Board members Amal Ishaq Alkooheji, Mohammed Abdulrazaq Shirazi and Danielle Pasquarelli Algosaibi, creating a balance of new leadership and institutional continuity.

Commenting on his appointment, AlSada said DANAT holds a distinguished position due to its specialised scientific expertise and its role in supporting the pearl and gemstone sector locally and internationally. He said the next phase will strengthen DANAT’s capabilities in testing, research, training, and international partnerships.

DANAT CEO Noora Jamsheer welcomed the newly appointed Board and said its diverse experience across multiple fields will add value to the institute’s journey. She noted that the Board’s guidance will support the executive management team as DANAT continues to enhance operational efficiency, develop its service offering and respond to the evolving needs of the pearl and gemstone sector.

Jamsheer said the institute’s priority remains “raising the quality and reliability” of its services, while strengthening research, training and sector expertise.

Established in 2017, DANAT is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, the Kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund. The institute was created to support third-party verification services, scientific research and professional standards in natural pearls and gemstones.

For manufacturers, exporters, jewellers and luxury brands, the development reflects a wider industry shift: gemmological laboratories are no longer only testing centres; they are becoming trust-building institutions for global trade. As buyers demand greater confidence in natural origin, treatment disclosure and synthetic detection, stronger international certification networks are becoming increasingly important. With its renewed Board and institutional backing, DANAT is positioning itself to play a stronger role in the international certification and research ecosystem.
