Xi’an: The Art in Gold: Jewellery in Hellenistic Times exhibition opened at the Shaanxi History Museum in Xi’an, China’s Shaanxi Province, on 14th June 2026. The exhibition will continue until 29th November 2026.
The showcase brings ancient Greek jewellery craftsmanship to Chinese audiences through 250 pieces or sets of exhibits from 25 Greek museums and archaeological institutions.
The exhibition focuses on jewellery from the Hellenistic period, which is known for its detailed goldwork, artistic designs and use of precious materials. The pieces reflect how jewellery was used not only for personal adornment, but also as a symbol of status, beauty, belief and cultural identity.
Through the display, visitors can see how ancient goldsmiths created jewellery with fine detailing and strong design language. The exhibition also highlights the importance of gold jewellery in understanding history, craftsmanship and luxury traditions.
The show further strengthens cultural exchange between China and Greece, bringing together two ancient civilisations known for their rich art and heritage.
