Thangamayil Jewellery Deepens Chennai Footprint with Major Store Expansion

Thangamayil Jewellery Limited is aggressively expanding into the Chennai metropolitan market, adding four flagship-scale showrooms in FY27 to push its statewide network past 66 outlets. The Madurai-headquartered retailer is cementing its presence in Tamil Nadu's capital, backed by an 86% surge in Q1 net profit and a strategic focus on diamonds, silver, and traditional bridal collections

Chennai: Thangamayil Jewellery Limited has significantly expanded its presence in Chennai through two major rounds of store launches, pushing its total network to over 66 outlets across Tamil Nadu.

The new phase of this rollout began in early June 2026, when the company opened showrooms in Neelankarai and Pallavaram. Ahead of those openings, Company Secretary CS.K Narayanan submitted the required regulatory disclosures to the BSE and the National Stock Exchange of India on 4 June.

Building on that momentum, the retailer opened two flagship-scale locations on August 23 in Mogappair West and Purasaiwakkam. The Mogappair West store spans 6,270 square feet, while the Purasaiwakkam branch covers 8,746 square feet, both designed to give shoppers a spacious, modern retail experience. Joint Managing Director Ba. Ramesh noted that establishing flagship outlets in Chennai marks a major milestone for the Madurai-headquartered brand as it seeks a stronger foothold in the state's capital.

Both the Mogappair West and Purasaiwakkam showrooms are built to handle comprehensive product segments. Thangamayil is widely recognized for its heavy South Indian bridal wear. These new stores heavily feature the brand's signature Heritage and Antique Lakshmi Nagas collections—including handcrafted temple choker sets, medallion studs, and wedding malais with traditional divine motifs—alongside regional staples like Magari malas, Casting Gold Gadi neckwear, and Poothall necklaces.

To cater to modern urban shoppers, both outlets include dedicated sections for certified Belgian-cut diamond jewellery, ranging from lightweight party wear to layered bridal sets. The showrooms also feature expansive layouts for silver jewellery, detailed puja items, and gifting artifacts, alongside daily-wear options like laser-cut gold bangles and lightweight chains.

This expansion reflects a deliberate strategy for the 2026–2027 fiscal year. While historically dominant in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities across Southern and Western Tamil Nadu, Thangamayil is executing a Chennai-focused cluster plan, aiming to open a total of nine new showrooms in the metropolitan area during FY27. To support this rapid scaling without overextending capital, the company is relying on trade partnerships with third-party manufacturers in major production hubs like Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata rather than investing heavily in new internal manufacturing plants.

With Chennai stores already generating over 20% of total company revenue and non-gold segments like diamonds and silver showing steady momentum, Thangamayil's total operating space now tops 1,49,000 square feet statewide as it deepens its presence in the Chennai market.
