Mumbai: Sarine has expanded its technology and certification infrastructure in India with the opening of a new GCAL by Sarine jewellery certification and quality assurance laboratory at SEEPZ, Mumbai, bringing testing and certification services directly into one of the country’s key jewellery manufacturing and export ecosystems.
The new facility extends GCAL by Sarine’s Indian operations beyond diamond grading into finished jewellery certification and quality assurance, giving manufacturers and exporters operating from SEEPZ closer access to independent verification services.
Location is an important part of the strategy. For manufacturers handling high-value jewellery, sending inventory outside the production ecosystem for certification can add transit, security and turnaround requirements. By establishing the laboratory within SEEPZ, Sarine aims to reduce those logistical steps and integrate certification more closely with the manufacturing and export workflow.
The Mumbai facility complements GCAL by Sarine’s diamond grading laboratory in Surat and its laboratory presence in New York, creating a stronger connection between an important Indian manufacturing base and one of the jewellery industry’s major international consumer markets.
Commenting on the expansion, Angelo Palmieri, President, GCAL, said the SEEPZ laboratory broadens the company’s capabilities in India from diamond grading into jewellery certification, while addressing the growing importance of proximity and logistical efficiency for manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers.
The opening also reflects a larger shift taking place across jewellery manufacturing. As global buyers place greater emphasis on quality assurance, authenticity and independent verification, certification is increasingly moving closer to the production floor rather than remaining a separate step at the end of the supply chain.
Sarine’s wider technology ecosystem already spans areas including diamond grading, authenticity analysis and synthetic diamond detection, placing the new laboratory within a broader move towards technology-led verification across the jewellery value chain.
For SEEPZ manufacturers, the significance is therefore not simply the arrival of another laboratory. It is the possibility of bringing production, quality control and third-party certification into a tighter operational loop, potentially improving turnaround and reducing the movement of high-value finished inventory.
With the new Mumbai facility, Sarine is strengthening its position at the intersection of jewellery manufacturing, gemmological technology and independent certification, as verification becomes an increasingly important part of global jewellery production.
