Oscar-winning Penélope Cruz captivated the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival, showcasing exquisite Indian luxury to an international audience. The actress made a statement in high jewellery from ZOYA, the luxury atelier under the Tata Group, attending the premiere of her new film. Her ensemble provided an advance look at ZOYA’s new collection, which draws inspiration from Indian spice traditions through the artistic interpretation of turmeric, cardamom, and cinnamon into fine jewellery art to wear.
The Look
Cruz’s red-carpet ensemble nailed the brief when it comes to balancing high-fashion gowns with statement fine jewellery. The warm, golden tones of her necklace brought out an effortless glow in her skin, cutting through the soft, textured fabric of her gown with a sunlit pop of color. The piece sat high on her collarbone, framing her face and bringing structure to the outfit. At the same time, the deep violet ring and bright blue-purple accents on her wrist provided just the right amount of contrast to break up the monochrome tone of her dress, keeping the look modern, fresh, and perfectly proportioned.
Brand Spotlight
ZOYA, a fine jewellery brand launched in 2010 by Titan Company Limited under the House of Tata, has built a reputation for blending Indian heritage with modern, global design. Taking its name from roots that mean "alive," the brand crafts fine diamond jewellery tailored for women who value self-expression over traditional status symbols. By pairing traditional Indian kaarigari with global art influences and signature innovations, like the patented Baoli setting and the new Bloom Cut™, ZOYA has grown from its early boutiques in Mumbai and Delhi into exclusive galleries across cities like Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, and Ahmedabad.
Commenting on the brand's TIFF debut, ZOYA Business Head Amanpreet Ahluwalia highlighted that the future of luxury will be defined by originality and by houses with the courage to develop a language entirely their own. She stated that seeing Penélope Cruz wear ZOYA on a global stage served as an affirmation of that creative conviction, marking a moment where the brand's cultural stories, distinctive color palette, and intricate craftsmanship met the world to add something truly unique to the international conversation.
Jewellery Decode
The standout piece of Cruz's look was the Rekindle Necklace. The design offers a fresh take on the classic eternity silhouette, taking cues from the golden warmth of turmeric. At its center sit 19 carats of warm golden heliodor stones, framed by a lively mix of pink and yellow sapphires. Master artisans put in over 1,200 hours of work to build the fluid gold lattice framework. Crafted with an open-back setting, the design lets light stream through the heliodors, giving the necklace a soft, steady glow whenever it catches the light.
Cruz wore the Wildflower Heart Ring, anchored by an eye-catching 13-carat amethyst, on her hand. The highlight of the stone is ZOYA’s patented Bloom Cut™, which took nearly a year of experimentation to perfect. The cut features spiraling facets that mimic a flower opening up to capture the light. Surrounding the deep violet amethyst is a cascading halo of pink sapphires and diamonds that spreads outward like delicate petals.
Completing the set was the Iconic Lattice Bangle, a clean, structured piece featuring gold meshwork. Set with brilliant-cut diamonds, the bangle comes to an end at chamfered edges capped with clear, emerald-cut tanzanites. Together, the three pieces brought a rich mix of color and fine craftsmanship to the red carpet, making it one of the standout style moments of the entire festival.
