Global: Jacob & Co. has introduced the Mahadev Edition, marking the luxury watchmaker’s first tribute to Lord Shiva through an Epic X-inspired timepiece that combines Hindu symbolism with skeletonised mechanical watchmaking.
The composition draws on Shiva’s association with creation, preservation and destruction, translating key symbols into a three-dimensional dial architecture. Lord Shiva occupies the centre of the design alongside the trident, damru and Om symbol, while the mantra ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ appears at 6 o’clock.
Each element carries a distinct symbolic reference. The trident represents control over the past, present and future, while the damru signifies rhythm and the flow of energy. Together, they form a dial conceived around the spiritual and philosophical identity of Mahadev.
A defining visual element emerges in darkness. Shiva and the surrounding motifs are treated with blue Super-LumiNova, allowing the composition to illuminate after dark. The blue glow has been used to represent divine energy and spiritual awakening while adding a technical dimension to the watch’s religious iconography.
The timepiece is housed in a 44 mm titanium case and powered by Jacob & Co.’s JCAM02 manual-winding skeleton calibre. The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a 48-hour power reserve.
The skeletonised architecture remains visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, revealing finishing details including vertical graining, Clous de Paris guilloché and perlage decoration.
The Mahadev Edition reflects a wider movement within global luxury where culturally specific narratives are increasingly being interpreted through high craftsmanship and collectible design. Here, Jacob & Co. uses mechanical watchmaking as the canvas, placing Indian spiritual symbolism at the centre rather than treating it as a peripheral decorative reference.
