New Delhi: QWEEN is expanding the traditional colour vocabulary of gold with the introduction of seven distinct gold shades, using alloy development to offer consumers a wider spectrum of choice beyond the familiar yellow, white and rose. The brand describes the launch as a first for India’s jewellery market.
The seven shades — Snowfall White, Cloudy Grey, Clover Green, Rose Bloom, Champagne Fizz, Desert Noon and 24K Sunrise — have been conceived as different expressions of the same precious metal, allowing colour to become a more prominent part of jewellery selection and personalisation.
What distinguishes the concept is that the colours are not presented simply as surface finishes. According to QWEEN, each shade is achieved through a specially developed gold alloy composition, creating the colour within the metal rather than relying on rhodium plating or other external coatings.
This gives QWEEN a broader design palette to work with. Customers can select a gold tone according to their personal aesthetic, while the brand can also bring different shades together within individual designs. In effect, colour becomes another design variable alongside gemstones, silhouette, texture and finish.
For Amit Kumar, Co-Founder and CEO of QWEEN, the idea is rooted in rethinking a metal that already carries enormous cultural and emotional significance in India. Rather than changing what gold represents, the brand is attempting to expand how consumers see and wear it, particularly as jewellery purchasing becomes increasingly connected with individuality and self-expression.
QWEEN has carried the seven-colour idea into its communication as well. An outdoor installation features seven Apostrophe rings, each representing a different shade, illuminated sequentially under the campaign thought: “Old is Gold. But Gold isn’t Old anymore.”
The collection is being showcased at QWEEN’s experiential store at Aditya Ancora in Sector 50, Noida, where the brand has already been experimenting with a more open and self-directed approach to jewellery discovery.
For the wider jewellery industry, the launch is interesting because the innovation begins with the material itself. Much of contemporary gold jewellery differentiation has centred on design, weight, craftsmanship and styling. QWEEN is adding colour to that equation, exploring whether consumers might eventually choose not simply a gold jewel, but also which expression of gold feels most personal to them.
