Bengaluru: AK Gold & Diamonds has expanded its retail presence beyond Tamil Nadu with the opening of its first showroom in Karnataka, marking the jewellery retailer's 12th outlet overall. Located in Nagarthpet, one of Bengaluru's established jewellery trading hubs, the new showroom represents a significant milestone for the four-decade-old business, which operates 11 stores across Tamil Nadu under the name AK Thanga Maligai.
The showroom was inaugurated on 25 October 2026 by K. H. Muniyappa, Karnataka's Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, in the presence of company representatives, industry personalities and invited guests. The ceremony was hosted by Mohammed Jinna, Managing Director of AK Gold & Diamonds, alongside members of his family.
The inauguration was attended by Kannada film actor Devika Bhat, Dr. Chetan Kumar Mehta, President of the Jain Youth Billionaires Association, and several senior IAS, IPS and IRS officers. The event marked the retailer's formal entry into Bengaluru's competitive jewellery market, bringing its established product portfolio and manufacturing-led business model to customers in Karnataka.
A key highlight of the new showroom is its assortment of Middle Eastern and Turkish-inspired gold jewellery, featuring both lightweight contemporary designs and elaborate statement pieces. The collections introduce international design influences alongside traditional Indian jewellery, catering to customers seeking variety across different styles and occasions.
The showroom also presents a selection of 916 hallmarked gold jewellery, including everyday ornaments, festive collections and traditional bridal designs. Elaborate haarams, chokers and other occasion-led jewellery form part of the assortment, complemented by certified diamond jewellery and silver articles suited to religious ceremonies, gifting and personal purchases.
The combination of traditional and international designs reflects AK Gold & Diamonds' efforts to address diverse consumer preferences within Bengaluru's jewellery market. By introducing lightweight gold collections alongside heavier bridal ornaments, the retailer aims to cater to different purchasing budgets and styling requirements.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mohammed Jinna highlighted the company's in-house manufacturing capabilities as an important aspect of its retail proposition. He explained that direct manufacturing allows the business to reduce its dependence on intermediaries and maintain greater control over production costs, enabling it to offer competitive making and wastage charges to customers.
Jinna also emphasised the retailer's selection of distinctive international jewellery designs, particularly its Middle Eastern and Turkish-inspired collections. He invited Bengaluru customers to explore the showroom's assortment as the company begins building its presence in Karnataka.
The decision to establish its first Karnataka outlet in Nagarthpet places AK Gold & Diamonds within one of Bengaluru's longstanding jewellery and commercial districts. The location provides access to an established customer base and a market recognised for its concentration of gold jewellery retailers, wholesalers and traditional trading businesses.
The Bengaluru opening forms part of the company's broader plans to expand beyond its established Tamil Nadu network. Having developed its presence through 11 showrooms over four decades, the retailer is now exploring opportunities in additional metropolitan markets across South India.
The Jinna family has identified the new Bengaluru flagship as an important step in this expansion strategy, with the company aiming to introduce its manufacturing-led retail model and diverse jewellery collections to a wider regional customer base.
With its 12th showroom, AK Gold & Diamonds is extending its regional footprint while building on its established strengths in gold jewellery manufacturing, traditional collections and internationally inspired designs. The Karnataka debut reflects the retailer's ambitions to develop a broader presence within South India's organised jewellery retail market.
