Malabar Group Launches Malabar Care Connect To Support Digital Palliative Care Access
Malabar Group and the Institute of Palliative Medicine, Kozhikode, have launched Malabar Care Connect, a technology-enabled platform designed to improve access to palliative care through teleconsultations, digital learning, training and knowledge-sharing. The initiative reflects Malabar Group’s continued focus on social impact and community-led healthcare support.
The initiative was launched following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Malabar Group and the Institute of Palliative Medicine at the IPM campus in Kozhikode. The MoU was signed by M P Ahammad, Chairman, Malabar Group, and Sreekumar P C from the Institute of Palliative Medicine.
Malabar Care Connect has been designed as a technology-enabled platform that brings together care delivery, education, training and public awareness. The platform will use digital infrastructure such as an audio-visual helpdesk, teleconsultation facilities, video conferencing systems, a recording studio and an online learning platform.
Through this initiative, Malabar Group and IPM aim to make palliative care support more accessible to patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals and volunteers. The platform will help bridge gaps in service delivery while also creating structured learning and knowledge-sharing opportunities.
The project will be implemented in phases. In the initial phase, Malabar Care Connect will provide live video, audio and teleconsultation support for patients and caregivers. It will also conduct educational programmes for the public and awareness initiatives focused on caregiving, bereavement, chronic illness and end-of-life care.
The platform will also support certification programmes for healthcare professionals, along with training initiatives for caregivers and volunteers. This is expected to help build a stronger support ecosystem around palliative care delivery.
Malabar Care Connect will further connect with the Global Palliative Doctors Network, which includes more than 800 doctors across 70 countries. Through this network, the platform will support professional discussions, training programmes and knowledge exchange around palliative care practices.
The digital infrastructure for the initiative has been established with support from the Indian Institute of Architects Kerala Chapter and Bengaluru-based Samagata Foundation.
The Institute of Palliative Medicine is recognised by the World Health Organization and serves as the training and research arm of the Pain and Palliative Care Society. IPM has been actively involved in palliative care education, service delivery and community participation.
Speaking about the partnership, M P Ahammad, Chairman, Malabar Group, said, “Palliative care is ultimately about preserving dignity, comfort, and human connection during some of life’s most challenging circumstances. The Institute of Palliative Medicine has built a model that has earned recognition far beyond India, and we are privileged to partner with an organisation that has contributed so significantly to this field.”
Dr Suresh Kumar, Founder Director, Institute of Palliative Medicine, said, “Access to palliative care remains a significant challenge for many individuals and families. We appreciate Malabar Group’s commitment to supporting an initiative that has the potential to strengthen palliative care delivery and training at multiple levels.”
The launch of Malabar Care Connect highlights how established business groups are increasingly using technology-led platforms to support social and healthcare initiatives. For Malabar Group, the initiative adds another layer to its community-focused work by combining digital access, medical expertise and long-term care support.
By bringing together teleconsultation, training, awareness and global knowledge exchange, Malabar Care Connect aims to strengthen palliative care access and create a more informed support system for patients and families facing serious illness.
