Melbourne:  An extraordinary Cartier jewellery exhibition is set to open at the National Gallery of Victoria as part of the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series.

The exhibition will open on 12th June and run until 4th October, bringing together more than 350 tiaras, brooches, timepieces and necklaces from Cartier’s celebrated collection.

Among the major highlights is Cartier’s Scroll Tiara, crafted in 1902 in the maison’s signature Garland style. The tiara was worn by Clementine Churchill, wife of then British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill, at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

The showcase will also include the Sun Tiara of 1907, featuring a 32-carat fancy intense yellow diamond at its centre, and the Art Deco diamond-and-platinum Halo Tiara of 1934, inspired by Ancient Egypt. The Halo Tiara is widely recognised for being worn by Catherine, Princess of Wales, at her wedding.

According to the organisers, the exhibition traces Cartier’s legacy in art, design and craftsmanship, covering the maison’s early years at the turn of the 20th century through to its contemporary creations.

The exhibition will also feature design drawings, sketchbooks and archival photographs from Cartier, offering visitors a closer look at the creative process and craftsmanship behind the jewellery pieces.

Founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier, Cartier grew into one of the world’s most influential jewellery houses under the leadership of his grandsons, Pierre, Louis and Jacques, who expanded the brand to London and New York.

The collection includes pieces associated with prominent names such as Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Margaret, the Duchess of Windsor and Rihanna, reflecting Cartier’s long-standing connection with royalty, cinema and global culture.

The Melbourne exhibition is expected to attract strong interest from jewellery lovers, design enthusiasts and luxury history followers, presenting Cartier’s evolution through some of its most iconic creations.
